About Gone to the Dogs

Owners, Tony and Laura Bussing

Gone To The Dogs was established in 2009 by Laura and Tony Bussing.  The Bussings moved here from Tennessee over 11 years ago. Consummate dog lovers, Laura & Tony, live, eat and breathe dogs (cats too, for that matter!). They both have spent most of their lives doing training & behavior modification with dogs “We just love this community and are always excited to share our passion with our customers and improve the lives of their dogs & cats!” says Laura.

Laura Bussing, CPDT-KA, CCFT, FP-MT, is a Certified Professional Dog Trainer with over 30 years of experience in obedience, agility, & behavior consulting. She is a Certified Canine Fitness Trainer via the University of Tennessee and a FitPAWS Master Trainer. She is a member of the Association of Professional Dog Trainers and the International Association of Assistance Dog Partners.  Laura is the Lead Trainer & Curriculum Developer, teaching several classes a week. She is also an AKC Canine Good Citizen Evaluator and a Therapy Dog Evaluator for TDI. “I’ve basically spent most of my life training dogs. Before GTTD, I concentrated on private training. I also enjoy the class setting and what that dynamic offers to the process of learning”, says Laura.  Laura has been voted the Best Dog Trainer in Salida in 2016 & 2017.  Tony & Laura volunteer their expertise with Ark-Valley Humane Society and support most non-profits in the community. Laura is a Master Level competitor in AKC & USDAA Agility with her Border Collies.

Tony is a graduate of the Nash Academy of Animal Arts and offers kennel-free grooming using only holistic products. “I really enjoy giving dogs personal attention and adding to the enrichment of their lives. They give so much back to me!” says Tony. Whether he’s grooming a Yorkie or modifying the behavior of a German Shepherd, Tony is always right at home with any dog. He offers his personal touch and commitment to making grooming as stress-free as possible.  Tony has been voted the Best Groomer in Salida in 2016 & 2017

When they’re not at Gone To The Dogs, the Bussings enjoy mountain biking and hiking with Maggie, Rayn & Geri, their constant canine companions. They hold fund-raising events for Ark-Valley Humane Society. Laura and Therapy Dog, Geri, visit at the hospital and Longfellow Elementary. They also teach Dog Safety to preschoolers in the area. We are active in the Salida community: member of the Salida Chamber of Commerce, Salida Business Alliance, Salida Mountain Trails and the Buena Vista Chamber of Commerce.

We consider it an honor and a privilege to have you as a customer. We really appreciate folks shopping locally and we strive to stock our store with the finest USA quality of treats, food, toys, and supplies”, says Laura.  We give back to the community with Free Puppy Classes, Free Seminars, Free Community Dog Walk, and a great Customer Loyalty Program.  We also support dozens of non-profits with donated items and services.
